Should Russell Wilson start for The Steelers?

The Steelers are sharing starting reps in practice and preseason between Russell Wilson and Justin Fields to see who should lead their offense. We now have two weeks of data on the experiment, and here are my thoughts on it.

Russell Wilson has played from behind since joining the team, a tenure that started with an ankle injury that kept him sidelined for weeks in practice. Since returning, he has played with the first and second teams in practice and finally debuted last Saturday in week 2 of preseason.

Russell struggled against the Bills, a game where he looked slow on the reads and slightly off-tempo with his teammates. I do believe these struggles are a consequence of his absence from practice and something that will be ironed out with time.

The Steelers need to pick their starting quarterback, as Russell Wilson will fall behind other quarterbacks if he cannot practice with his starting rotation. Justin Fields is a great QB, and I think he will overtake Russ in time, but he needs to work on his passing to get to that point.
